Staying Open
A community website started at the beginning of the COVID-19 epidemic of 2020.
CHALLENGE
Downtown Huntsville Inc., a local business organization, was looking for a way to communicate operational changes during the COVID-19 initial outbreak. A few coworkers and I threw together this website over the weekend to help out.
ROLE
I was the product designer on a team composed of coworkers from Spur. This included the CTO who contributed as a full-stack developer, a project manager who sourced the business’s information, and a front-end developer to complete this project.
PROCESS
We started from scratch on a Friday after work and had the first iteration of the site live by Saturday evening. The product manager scoped the requirements by reaching out to local businesses directly. From a design perspective, we needed the site to be responsive, simple, and easy to learn.
RESULTS
Overall the project was successful. 68 local businesses signed-up to provide additional information about changes to their operations caused by COVID-19.
LESSONS LEARNED
With the right mentality you can accomplish a lot in a short amount of time.
Blobs are miserable assets to use for a responsive web page.
